Grace Clark Kimball Carr, 88, died Monday, April 22, 1996 of causes incident to age at a local care center.

Grace was born September 13, 1907 to Dan Carlos and Annie Clark Kimball in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received her education in the Salt Lake City public schools graduating from East High School in 1925. She graduated with honors in 1929 from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in physical education and minoring in speech. She taught physical education, health, and swimming at Bryant Junior High School, and West Jordan Junior High School, and Roosevelt Junior High School in the Salt Lake School District until her marriage to Armond Franklin Carr in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, April 4, 1934. He died November 2, 1991.

During the summer months from 1929 to 1934, she was playground director and swimming teacher at the West Jordan playground and then the Liberty Park playground. She also participated in the Salt Lake Civic Opera summer productions during those years.

Grace has always been an active member of the LDS Church, and since her high school days has served in many callings. She served as Ward Relief Society president and has held other positions in Relief Society, MIA, and Primary, and was a faithful member of the ward choir for several years. She has always had a real love for dancing and was active, both as a participant and as a leader, in many of the Church MIA dance festivals. She was instrumental in organizing the Centennial Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in 1947 where she served as Captain and later as music leader.

In 1950, she re-entered the teaching profession teaching first grade in the Jordan School District at the Upper Bingham Elementary School and the Mountain View School. She was recognized by the state of Utah for her outstanding teaching ability. On March 14,1972, she was also honored as "Teacher of the Day" by KSL radio. Her life revolved around her home, family, and school children. She was an excellent seamstress, swimmer, and dancer, and she loved being a wife, mother, homemaker, and teacher.

Grace is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Fred) Brunner, a granddaughter, Deborah (Cory) Sackett, and five great-grandchildren: Alan Cory, Michael Fred, Scott Orval, Eric Carr, and Megan Ann Sackett. Also survived by three sisters: Pearl McDonald, Dorothy Dyer, and Lois Lloyd. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Patricia Ruth Carr, two brothers: Paul Kimball and Don Kimball, three sisters: Mary Johnson, Alice Slusser, and Leah Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 1996 at 12 noon in the Imperial 2nd Ward Chapel, 1560 East Atkin Avenue (2840 South). Friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and at the Chapel on Saturday from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services.

Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
