He is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Dimple Lee (Jones) Haney; four sisters, Velma Geraldine Bryant, Lula Mae Fields (Willie), Betty Sue Carr, and Ruth Jean Welch (Eldon), and a host of nieces and nephews of which one is a special niece, Donna Marie (Welch) Walker who cared for many of his needs in his last months and days.
Chester was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, serving in the North African Campaign against the German army of General Rommel, the invasion of Southern France, and then in the pacific war against the Japanese. He was a shipfitter and was Honorably discharged as a Petty Officer Second Class four months after the end of the war, in December of 1945. Chester retired after 32 years of service from the Nashville Bridge Co. in August of 1987.
Service 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003, Chapel, Whitson Funeral Home, Bro. Claudie Richardson & Bro. Earl Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Algood, TN Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wayne Caruthers, Randall Dishman, Royce Haney, Gene Haney, Mike and Allan Welch.
