Marilyn Duvall, Polio
Victim, Dies; Pneumonia
__A five-year-old Cedar Rapids girl died Saturday afternoon at Iowa City's University hospital. Polio had so weakened her chest muscles that she could not fight off pneumonia which struck while she was still hospitalized as a polio patient.

__Another child of the Duvalls, Stephen, 18 months, was stricken with polio a week after his sister contracted the disease. He recovered.
__Marilyn had been listed in serious condition as a polio patient. When first stricken she was almost completely confined to an iron lung.
__Later she was allowed out of the machine during much of the day but was put back in the lung each night.
__About a week ago she contracted pneumonia. Her attending physician said Saturday that the child's polio - weakened chest muscles could not battle the effects of the second disease.
