Pioneer Passes

Skookumchuck - One of southern Thurston County's oldest native pioneers, Mrs. Hester A. Whalin, died Wednesday night (May 26, 1965) in a Tumwater rest home where she had lived for the last five years.

Mrs. Whalin was born June 5, 1874, in Skookumchuck Valley and lived almost all of her life in the area. She was a granddaugheter of Sidney S. Ford, one of the Washington Territorial leaders. Her father was (Joel) Theodore Ticknor and her mother Elizabeth Ford.

The deceased was a member of the Tenino Presbyterian church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Sam Prince, Tenino; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Davis, Tenino and Mrs. Edith Pinger, Olympia; 5 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services are Saturday at 10:30am at Forest Grove cemetery with the Rev. MacKenzie Murray officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Newell – Hoerlings, Centralia.
