She married William Henry Holroyd in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin on April 4, 1907. As a young adult, she won a nail-pounding contest at the fair. The prize was a new wringer-washing machine.
William and Alta lived in northeastern Iowa with their young family until around 1917 when they purchased a farm in Benton County, Minnesota. They had six children- Margrette, Harvey, Herbert, Burdette, Clayton and Naomi.
Alta was a very capable, industrious lady and she devoted her life to God and to her family. Alta's grandchildren recall her often repeating such quotes as, "Any job worth doing at all is worth doing well." "Little by little the ways are won." and "Where there's a will, there's a way."
