Services for Mrs. Ralph L. (Dorothy K.) Kirchen Sr., 86, 995 Mayfair Court, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m.
Mrs. Kirchen and her husband, Ralph, owned and operated the Swiss Valley Chalet Supper Club from 1957-61.
She was born on April 24, 1910, in Dubuque, daughter of Christopher and Catherine (Lowrey) Heller. She died Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 1997, at home.
She married Ralph L. Kirchen on Dec. 28, 1932, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dubuque; he passed away on Aug. 4, 1986.
She was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's Academy and earned a degree in music. She gave many sing-a-long performances at area nursing homes. Her music will be sadly missed.
She was a member of St. Columbkille's Parish and its rosary society, St. Columbkille's Senior Citizens, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and the Catholic Mothers Study Club, and was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and the American Red Cross.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Janet) McQuillen, of Dubuque; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ralph (Vi) Kirchen Jr., of Dubuque; six grandchildren, Lisa (Mark) Krieg, Kevin (Sarah) Kirchen, Lynn (Randy) Tschiggfrie, Michael McQuillen (and his fiancee Liz Yosch), Chris McQuillen and Kathleen McQuillen; and two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Tschiggfrie and Benjamin Krieg.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Ralph L. Kirchen Jr., on Feb. 8, 1997; a brother, Edward Heller; and a sister, Margaret Heller.
A Dorothy K. Kirchen Memorial Fund has been established in lieu of flowers.
