Myrtle "Myrt" Mae Doran, of Pine City, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at Lakeside Medical Center having reached the age of 81.
Myrt was born May 16, 1929 to Axel and Gerti (Swanson) Anderson at the family farm near Rush City. She married Don Doran on July 27, 1947 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City. Throughout their 61 years of marriage, they lived in Rush City, St. Croix Falls, and Pine City.

Their family grew to include four children: Cheryl, Becky, Colleen, and Tom. Myrt was a stay at home mom in the early years. She was a wonderful wife, mom, and grandmother. She loved to cook and bake, and had the gift of hospitality as she welcomed family and friends into their home. Later, Myrt did work part time at the Cheese Chalet in Rock Creek, the Hallmark Store, the Downtown Bakery, and the Doran's Jack and Jill in Pine City.

She was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She served on the altar guild and enjoyed being in the Joy circle. Myrt and Don made thousands of Swedish meatballs for the lutefisk dinners. She was also a member of the Pine City VFW auxiliary and Pine City American Legion Auxiliary.

Myrt was preceded in death by her loving husband Don Doran; parents Axel and Gerti Anderson; siblings: Vi Jenkins, Helen Anderson, Dorothy Lindstrom, Kenny Anderson, Elmer Anderson, and Herbert Anderson; and son-in-law Allen Erhart.
She is survived by her children: Cheryl (Jim) Richter of North Branch, Becky (Doug) Berglund of Pine City, Colleen (Dennis) Pitt of Brainerd, and Tom (Jane) Doran of Elysian; grandchildren: Jody, David, Julie, Katie, Jaci, Abby, Mackenzie, Jeremy, Travis, Michael, and Anne; great-grandchildren: Briana, Nicholas, Megan, Matthew, Jakob, Moses, Kaden, Brady, and baby girl Steele (due in March); sister Harriet Grambush of Duluth; sisters-in-law: Shirley Huebl of Mankato, and Maddie (Doran) Zeney of Mora; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Pine City with Reverend Ron Boettner and Reverend Vicki VanderVegt officiating. Music was provided by organist Glenna Reierson, and musicians: Doug Berglund, Adrienne Roubinek, Mark Osterdyk, and Gary Hawkinson. Interment was in the Birchwood Cemetery of Pine City. Casket bearers were David Erhart, Jeremy Pitt, Michael Doran, Travis Doran, David Long, and Ben Smetena.

Funeral arrangements were with the Swanson Funeral Chapel, Pine City, Minn.
