FRED W. SIEVERT - Mr. Sievert has for a number of years made a study of bee raising, and his apiaries at Porter are noted for the excellence of their honey.

Mr. Sievert was born in Porter, Indiana, on September 24, 1868, the son of John and Mary (Whetsel) Sievert, both of whom were natives of Germany. They were married in Porter County in 1866, the father being occupied for a number of years in railroad work and later as a farmer. To them were born eight children: Fred W., John, William, August, deceased, Louis, Henry, Theodore and Annie, deceased.

Fred W. Sievert attended the schools of Porter and subsequently engaged in business for himself. He found success in the operation of the Columbia Lunch Room, and being naturally disposed to much activity and possessed of versatile ability he started in bee raising in a small way. He has been very successful in this activity. He found remuneration in all of his ventures and was one of the original promoters of the State Bank of Porter, of which he now serves as one of the directors. In addition, he finds financial success in the realty field and has done some building.

His marriage was to Dena, daughter of Fred and Minnie Ecklund, of Porter, Indiana, on November 14, 1893. To this marriage were born three children: Mildred, the wife of Jacob Warbel; Jessie, who died at the age of eight; and Lester, a student in the Chesterton High School. Mr. Sievert is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Elks, and is regarded as one of the progressive men of attainments of this community.
