Mr. Carson was born April 29, 1937, to the late Brad and Alma Hinsley Carson and passed away March 1, 2011, in Tyler. Mr. Carson graduated from Oakwood High School in 1955, graduated from Sam Houston State in 1960, he served in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea in 1964 in helping to establish an orphanage and school for half-American children, served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 and served two tours in West Germany. Mr. Carson was a deacon and member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Welcome Home Soldiers. He was a lifetime member and officer of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 932 of Tyler.
Mr. Carson is survived by his wife, Betty Carson of Flint; sons; Roger N. "Kit" Carson Jr. of Jacksonville, Kyle Carson and wife Sharon of Tyler, Kenneth Carson and wife Tammi of San Antonio; daughter, Kathy Dean and husband Lawrence of Tyler; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Bryan of Oakwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Faye Rubia.
Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
