Arnold and Regina Schrandt Burr

Arnold Adolph Burr b. Jun. 9, 1909, in Jefferson Twp., son of Frank P. and Helena M. Keppler Burr. Arnold m. Regina C. Schrandt Jan. 19, 1932, at the church of Our Lady of Seven Dolors at Festina, Ia.

Regina Catherine b. July 8, 1909, in Washington Twp., Winn. Co., to August and Mary Schneberger Schrandt.

To this union were born three sons: Lloyd Francis b. Dec. 22, d. Dec. 27, 1932. Maurice Francis b. July 25, 1936, and Gerald Leo b. Aug. 13, 1938. Maurice m. Lois DeSotel June 16, 1959, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Garnavillo, Ia. Lois, the daughter of Leo and Margaret DeSotel of Garnavillo, is a licensed beautician. Maurice has been with the Iowa Highway Commission about 25 years. He is Assistant District Engineer in Maintenance. He is a B.A. graduate of Loras College and also of the Univ. of Iowa B.S.C.E.

They have four children: Gary b. March 14, 1960; Alan b. March 6, 1961; Marcia b. April 10, 1962; and Brian b. Jan. 3, 1964. They live at Fairfield, Ia.

Gerald, now known as Bro. Bruno Burr S.V.D. is a member of the Society of the Divine Word at Techny, Ill. He attended Loras College for one semester, is a graduate of Loyola, Chicago, with a Masters in Counseling. Bro. Bruno is in the Philippine Islands at the present. He has worked there as a Missionary for over seven years. Maurice and Gerald attended parochial schools in Garnavillo, Ia., Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Guttenbeg, Ia.

Arnold worked for Clayton Co. 13 years, maintaining roads where we lived in Garnavillo. Later moved to Prairie du Chien, Wis., where Arnold worked at the quarry, operating the crusher for the E.C. Schroeder Co. in Wyolusing, Wis. The company crushed rock for the Burlington R.R. beds during WWII. In 1947 we moved to Clayton, Ia., where Arnold was plant operator at the Clayton Silica Mine for nearly 25 years. Upon retirement, we now reside in Garnavillo.

Arnold's parents, Frank P. b. July 18, 1878, d. Feb. 18, 1937. Helena M. b. Sept. 20, 1877, d. March 14, 1976, are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Regina's parents, August b. Feb. 19, 1874, d. Aug. 27, 1914. Mary b. May 6, 1878, d. June 30, 1958, are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Festina, ia. Arnold and Regina's parents were farmers.

ARNOLD A. BURR

GARNAVILLO, Iowa - Arnold A. Burr, 92, of Garnavillo, died after a brief illness Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Guttenberg (Iowa) Municipal Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Garnavillo, with the Rev. Richard Gaul officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Burr was a machinist at the Silica Sand Mine, Clayton.

He was born on Jan. 9, 1909, on the family farm near Osterdock, son of Frank and Helena (Keppler) Burr.

Surviving are his wife, Regina (Schrandt) Burr; a son, Maury (Lois) Burr, of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Gary (Chris) Burr, Alan (Tracy) Burr, Marcia (Scott) Bell and Brian (Debbie) Burr; 14 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Brother Gary Burr, SVD, and Lloyd, in infancy; a brother, Leo Burr; and four sisters, Isabel Entringer, Genva Vorwald, Agnes Vorwald and Leona Hauth.
