Edward Merel Rogers was born 23 Apr 1915 near Blue Mound, Linn Co., KS and died 11 Feb 2003 in Colorado Springs, El Paso Co., CO.  He was married 23 Jun 1940 to Mildred Ruth Okes in Craig, Moffat Co., CO.  Merel came to Craig in 1935 from Kansas where he had been attending Kansas State Teachers College to work for his Uncle Tom (Thomas Wilkes Rogers) a pioneer Craig business man.  Tom sent Merel to school to learn bookkeeping and Merel went to work in his uncle's hardware store.  In 1954 Merel and his wife, Millie, purchased a half interest in the business and bought the second half a year later.  After more than 30 years of business ownership and a very active involvement in community, church and civic service he and Millie sold their business and retired.  During their last years they spent their winters in Phoenix and summers in Craig.
