"James P. Long
James P. Long, 96, died yesterday afternoon at four o'clock at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. George Lawson, near this city after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at ten o'clock from the Slate Hill church in Hawkins county conducted by Rev. W. W. Overholt. Interment will follow in the family cemetery in Hawkins county. Deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Lawson of this county and Mrs. Bertha Annakins of Mooresburg, and three sons, Howard Long of Bean Station, Mack Long of Battle Creek, Mich., and Earnest Long of Mooresburg. Mr. Long was a prominent retired farmer, formerly from Hawkins county, but for the past few years since his retirement has made his home in this county, was an active member of the Baptist church and perhaps was the oldest resident of the county. Funeral cortege will leave the Horton Funeral Home tomorrow morning at eight o'clock."

Grave was not removed when area was flooded by TVA in 1941. Consent to remain was given by son Ernest Long of Noeton.
