PEGGY BARKSDALE SHEFFIELD
1933 - 2011

Peggy passed from this life peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 01, 2011, in her home surrounded by family. She was loved by everyone who knew her and brought laughter to the lives of her family and many close friends. Peggy loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Peggy was born on August 08, 1933, to the late Travis Lawton and Zora Wren Barksdale of Campti, LA. She married Oscar Eugene "Gene" Sheffield on August 01, 1951. Gene preceded her in death on September 30, 1999.

Peggy was a dedicated Christian and long time member of East Brent Baptist Church. She retired from her career as a Registered Nurse after forty years of service. Peggy and Gene enjoyed several years of retirement in beautiful Lake Lure, NC where they formed many lifelong friendships. Peggy loved spending much of her free time with her dear friends playing Bridge.

Peggy was intelligent, witty, strong and committed to her family and many friends. Many sought her compassionate and candid advice, as well as her sincerity, which will be remembered fondly by all who had the good fortune to know her. Peggy will be missed deeply by all; however we rejoice that she will be reunited with the love of her life.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of forty-eight years, three brothers, two brothers-in-law and one nephew. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Glenn Sheffield (Cindy) and Tony Sheffield (Marcia); five grandchildren, Schyler Sheffield (Katie), Deidra McGill (Frankie) and John, Joseph and Anna Sheffield; one great granddaughter, Breanna Sheffield; 3 sisters, Myrtis Bamberg, Yvonne Scogin, and Margaret Sanders; one brother, Aaron Barksdale; one sister-in-law, Helen Barksdale; and seven nephews and two nieces.

Peggy leaves behind a number of people with whom she had very special friendships and to whom the family cannot express its appreciation fully. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Sunnenberg and the staff of Covenant Hospice Milton for their care and concern for Peggy's needs and comfort.

The visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, March 04, 2011 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway, Pensacola, FL. The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm. A celebration of Peggy's life begins at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Covenant Hospice Milton.
