"Another loving mother has gone to her reward after ten weeks of sickness during which all was done to alleviate her suffering that loving children and friends could do. She answered the summons, "Come unto me."

Mrs. Eva Fortier was born in Warren, Jefferson, Ohio, October 26th, 1849. She was the daughter of John and Sarah Creamer, pioneers, who drove an ox team all the way from Ohio to Oxford, Indiana. Mrs. Fortier, then a child, helped ans endured the hardships of traveling that way. Benton County was then a wild prairie, very thinly settled inhabited by howling wolves and other wild animals. She knew what pioneer life was, being one of a family of thirteen children who were reared to labor and hardships.

The family finally came to Warren County and settled on a farm near Rainsville. Here the children grew to maturity, and here she marrried Peter Fortier, a fine young soldier of the Civil War, with whom she lived happily until separated by death. It was one of the writers privileges to be one of her friends. I saw her in the Warren County Bank a short time ago where we exchanged friendly greetings. it was such a shock to learns of her death, she was an honored member of the G.A.R. Circle and will be missed by that order. Hers was the kindly, lovable disposition, which attracted her friends. As a mother she was perfection, as a neighbor ans friend has few equals. She leaves to mourn three children; Mr. John Fortier of Chicago, Mrs. Annie Hignell of Williamsport, and Mrs. Muade Welch of Chicago. There is one grandson, Mr. Leonard Stump of Chicago and two great grandchildren, Leonard Jr., and Beverly. Of that large family of brothers and sisters, only four remains Elizabeth Hewitt of Rainsville, Mary Jane Resco of Clyde, Kansas, Jennie Simmerman of Canada, and Abbie Evertt of Oxford, Indiana. Those who awaited her coming were Frank, George, Augustus, Ruel, and Alonzo Creamer, Josephine Simmerman, Louisa Rayl, and Laura Peel.

Mrs. Eva Fortier died July 19th, 1927 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Harold at the residence in Williamsort, Thursday, July 21st, at 2 p.m." - Review Republican, July 21, 1927 (Obituary provided by Eric Cassel)
