Going to do my best on this bio. Marie (Boyd) Click was my grandmother. Most called her "Granny". She was born and raised in a bottom called Emma, Kentucky along the Big Sandy River by Henry Tilden and Eva (Branham) Boyd. Tilden and Eva's children consisted of, Marie, Midge, Estell, Wanda, Norma, Birdis, Darwin Boyd, her brother, who is still living. She had three other siblings, Raymond who was killed by a car (hit & run), and a set of twins, Edgar and Dorothy who died shortly after being born.
Marie always told us her real name was Vernie Marie, but we never found any thing on documents or otherwise. She had even made up a little song about herself... "Vernie Marie went out to pee...etc". She was a quite woman, good mother and grandmother.
Marie married Frank B. Click and had two daughters, Patsy and Sandra when he was killed by an auto. Marie was pregnant with her youngest daughter Frankie Sue at the time. After Frank's death, with the help of her parents, she contine to live and raise her children in Emma.
In later years she moved up to Ypsilanti, Michigan and stayed with her daughter Sandra and her husband, helping them out with their children while working at Arlan's Department Store. She always had her house in Emma and would make trips down there quite often.
When she reached retirement age she returned to Emma and remained there until she incurred breast cancer and moved to Ohio with her daughters while being treated. She then suffering from Altheimzer, never returned to Kentucky to live.
She survived cancer twice in her life, but Altheimzer took a toll after ten years and she passed away in Marion, Ohio.
She was survived by three daughters, Patsy Hayes, Sandra Porter and Frankie Sue Bartley, 4 grandchildren, Deb Shepherd, Tammy Holcomb, Lesa Meyer and Elizabeth Castle, and 9 great grandchildren.
Marie and her sister Midge had already picked out their tombstones and place of burial long before she became ill. She was taken back to Kentucky where her funeral was held in Prestonsburg and her burial also.
Her parents are buried in Emma, Kentucky on top of the hill at Bill Sherman Cemetery along with other family members.
Her husband Frank Benjamin Click is buried in the Click Cemetery. When I asked why, was told by Marie's daughter, "When daddy was killed, his dad begged Marie to let him take his boy and bury him in the family cemetery. At first Mommie refused, but later after much thought and Frank's dads pleading, she gave in and let Frank be buried in the Click Cemetery."
