Douglas W. Elmore, 81 0f Carneys Point died surrounded by his family Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Michael Purcell in Lewisburg, PA. He was born Nov. 16, 1929 at Woodbury Hospital, the son of the late William A. and Pearl M. Moretz. He married the former Pearl Henderson on March 12, 1955; his death breaks a marital union of nearly 57 years. He was predeceased his brothers, William, Carroll and Raymond Elmore.

A proud veteran serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War, Doug was a 1947 graduate of PGHS, a graduate of Salem Co. Technical College and also attended the University of Delaware. Doug retired from the United States Postal Service in 1984 after 38 years of service in the Penns Grove and Deepwater post offices. Since his retirement, he worked as a handyman and carpenter throughout Salem County. He was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Doug enjoyed airplanes, playing the guitar and golf.

In addition to his beloved wife, Doug is survived by his daughter, Lois Purcell, her husband Michael and two grand-daughters, Samantha and Erin Purcell of Lewisburg, PA and a foster son, Bud Volpe of Hickory, NC.

A viewing will be held in the ASHCRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 47 State St., Penns Grove.

Funeral services will be in Union Presbyterian Church, 254 Shell Rd., Carneys Point. Interment will follow in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
