Tahlequah, OK-Services for Robert Lee Briggs are 10:00 am, Wednesday March 2, 2011 in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. Officiating will be Chaplain Kevin Webster. The family will receive friends from Tuesday evening, 6:00 -8:00 pm. Robert Lee Briggs was born January 16, 1943 in Briggs, Oklahoma to Earl Briggs and Mattie Dimple (Calico) Briggs. He passed away on February 26, 2011 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 68. Bob was a 1961 Tahlequah High School graduate. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Marines serving in Viet Nam. Following his discharge he relocated to Pampa, Texas where he met and married Anne Silcott in 1970. Bob was employed by Mapco. He later returned to Tahlequah. He enjoyed music, spending time on the river and his family and many friends. Loving sports he was an avid golfer and coached his sons in little league. He was a sports writer and did commentary for the Times Journal in Tahlequah. He has been preceded in death by his father, Earl Briggs, and nephew, Matthew Edwards. Surviving Bob are Anne Briggs of Pampa, TX; children, Stan Organ and wife Gail of Houston, TX, Steve Organ and wife Janene, of Pampa, TX; Jolea Herring and husband John of Farmington, NM and Angel Wheeler and husband Jason of Pampa, TX; six grandchildren; his mother Dimple Woods of Tahlequah; three sisters, Velta Edwards and husband Harold; Jeanne Hobson and husband Fred; and Linda Webster; a brother Leon Briggs; special friend, Jane Danielson; many nieces, nephews and loved ones. Bob was a devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by many.
