David was born on August 20, 1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana into the home of the late Howard and Anna (Zike) Godsey. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942-1946 aboard the USS Tutuilla. David retired from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department in 1991. He especially enjoyed writing short stories for his granddaughter, Nicole Richardson.
David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol (Rahn) Godsey; son, David Godsey, Jr of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Cheryl Johnson of Plymouth, MA, Linda Godsey of Rosenburg, TX, Patty Kurtz of Pleasant Plains, OH, and Judy Maupin, of Heardon, VA; step-daughters, Lori Haskett and Kim Bartley both of Bloomington; sister, Ruth Ellis of Ellettsville, thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Howard Godsey, Jr and sisters, Lavera Harlow and Doris Wickline.
Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Kevin Albert officiating. Burial is to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the Monroe County Honor Guard.
