U.S. Congressman. Relocating to Kansas, in 1877, he engaged in banking and manufacturing. He was Mayor of Lawrence, Kansas, (1881-85), a member of Kansas House of Representatives, in 1887 and a member of the State Senate in 1895. In 1899, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-sixth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1907. Not a candidate for re-nomination resumed his previous business interest until his death at age 80.
