Dr. William J. Glass, Jr.

In Loving Memory of Dr. William James Glass, Jr. and Gwendolyn Maurine (Curtis) Glass, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Stair officiating. Dr. William Glass, Jr. was born on February 2, 1914 in Sissonville, West Virginia, the son of the late William James Glass, Sr. and Pearl (Milam) Glass.

He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA and then enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged after the war at the rank of Major.

Dr. Glass married Maurine Curtis on April 9, 1943 in Abilene, TX. Maurine was born on November 25, 1922 in Weatherford, TX, the daughter of the late Harry A. Curtis and Pauline (Johnson) Curtis. It was after the war when Dr. and Mrs. Glass moved to Charleston, West Virginia where he practiced medicine until they moved to Monett in 1956. They purchased a building on Broadway and served the community until his retirement in 1982. During their years in Monett, they were members of the First Christian Church. It was in 1990 when Dr. and Mrs. Glass moved to Nixa, MO and in their later years moved to Denton, TX to be closer to their son and daughter -in-law. Dr. Glass passed away on August 16, 2009. Maurine Glass passed away on February 26, 2004.

Survivors include one son, James Glass and his wife Sami, of Sanger, TX; one daughter, Patricia Glass, of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

They were preceded in death by one son, William Curtis Glass.

After the services, the family invites friends to stay for visitation at the funeral home. A private committal of ashes will take place at the Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.buchananfuneralhomemonett.com.
