Son of Thomas Pembroke and
Lucretia Neathery Poteet.

Gibbons Poteet,Prominent Roxton
Citizen,Banker,Columist, and
afterdinner Speaker,died at a
Paris Hospital Friday morning
at 10:45 after being in failing
health some time.
He was 75 years of age,having
been born in Lamar County,Aug-
ust 31,1866 the son of T.P.and
Luctratia Poteet.He taught
school in Lamar County and after-
ward became interested in the
First National Bank of Roxton
which he served as Cashier and
President many years. He retired
a few years ago after failing
Mr.Poteet was very popular as a
Speaker, and delivered many hum-
orous addresses and was especially
in demand for his famous Rabbit-
twisters Association speech.
Funeral services were held at
2'o'clock Monday afternoon at
Manton-Fry Funeral Home, Paris,
and interment was made in Ever-
green Cemetery, The Rev.Kirk M.
Beard, Methodist pastor at Roxton
Survivors are three sons,Barkley G.
Poteet and C.O. Poteet of Wichita
Falls and R.P.Poteet of Ft.Smith,
Ark. and a daughter,Mrs Roy Self
of Dallas; four brothers, A.W.,
Amarillo,C.A.San Angelo and J.P.
and H.C. of Paris.
