He was born November 19, 1933, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He moved to Cleveland in 1952 and had lived in Lorain since 1979.
Clarence worked for U.S. Steel as a crane operator, retiring in 1982 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 1104.
He enjoyed gardening and was a member of AA for 24 years.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 28 years, Bessie V. Cox (nee Gaines);son, Clarence Cox, Jr.; daughters, Marilyn Cox and Theresa Cox, both of Cleveland, and Sandra Cox of Lorain; sisters, Ossie Cox Young of Yazoo City, Miss., Lula B. Cox Young of Lorain and Flower Cox Howard and Hazel L Cox, both of Yazoo City, Mississippi; an aunt, Erma L. Kennebrew of Cleveland; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gussie (nee Johnson) Cox; sister, Willie Mae Cox; and stepdaughter, Lody Gaines.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 noon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Avenue in Lorain.
Rev. Arthur Young of Yazoo City, Mississippi will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
