James M. Ankrum, 80, of Hinckley, and formerly of Sandstone, passed away at the Pine County Memorial Hospital at Sandstone Thursday evening, Nov. 15th after a long illness.

Mr. Ankrum was born at Kingsley, Iowa, on Oct. 3, 1893, the son of Charles and Fidelia Ankrum. He was married to Elizabeth Evink on Oct. 28, 1912, at Pipestone, MN. Last year the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple came to Pine County in 1921 and lived on their farm west of Groningen for many years. Mr. Ankrum was engaged in farming most of his life and also worked for the railroad. Two years ago the couple moved into Hinckley village.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Henry of Kroschel and Tony of San Bernardino, CA; three daughters, Mrs. John (Hattie) Klar of Hinckley, Mrs. August (Nellie) Schmitz of St. Paul and Mrs. Edwin (Charlotte) Delaney of Sandstone. He is also survived by one brother, Howard, of Park Rapids and by two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Bistrup of Fulda and Mrs. Ada Walters of Nevada. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. One son, Leroy, preceded in him death in 1968.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 19th at 2 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sandstone with Rev. Douglas Augustine officiating. Mrs. Edward Lundorff was the soloist and Mrs. Maurine Lindgren the organist. Casket bearers were: Gerrit Klein, John Thinesen, Calvyn Yocum, Edward Lundorff, Clem Dupuis and Lee Ruble. Burial was in Spring Park Cemetery at Sandstone. Larson Funeral Home, Sandstone, MN in charge of arrangements.
