Oliver Leonard Millard was a grandson of Dr. Abiather Millard 1744 MA - 1811 NY & Tabitha Messenger Hopkins 1745-1831. Oliver was a 1st cousin of Millard Fillmore 1800-1874, 13th President of the United States as his father Abiathar Millard was the brother to Phoebe (Millard) Fillmore - the president's mother.

Oliver Leonard Millard served as a private in the War of 1812. He married on his birthday in 1816 to his first wife Deborah Hopkins Seelye born 1795 Kingsbury, Washington, NY, d. 1854 Lockport, Niagara, NY. She was the daughter of Capt. Nehemiah Seelye and Mary Amelia Hopkins who were originally from New Milford, Litchfield, Connecticut and relocated to Kingsbury, Washington, NY where they are both buried in the Kingsbury Cemetery.

Oliver moved his family to Lockport, Niagara Co., NY in 1817 to work on the Erie Canal, where he constructed the "Millard's Bridge" over the Canal.

His children with Deborah Hopkins Seelye:

1. Junius Ashley Millard
1816 Hampton, Washington Co., NY - 1900 Hersey, MI.
Buried Wayland, Allegan, Michigan Cemetery next to
his wife Narcissa Balch Harroun.

2. Mary Amelia Millard
1818 Lockport, NY - 1883 Somerset, NY.

3. John Jay Leonard Millard

4. DeWitt Clinton Millard

5. Cornelia Hortense Millard

m. Gaston J. Bangham 1827-1905.

He married second to Electa (Seelye) Clark, widow of Byron Garrett Clark and the niece of his first wife Deborah Hopkins Seelye. Electa was the daughter of Benjamin Seelye & Eunice Barnham who were originally from Hampton, Washington, NY but later relocated to Wayne, NY.

The Hopkins line behind Oliver's wife Deborah Hopkins Seelye back through Mary Amelia Hopkins (wife of Capt Nehemiah Seelye) follows to the Mayflower Giles Hopkins line through his descendant Joseph Hopkins & Mary Berry.

The Hopkins line on the Millard side of this family goes to John Hopkins of Cambridge (1634)who many claim may have been a son of Stephen Hopkins and his 1st wife, and brother to Giles Hopkins but there is no documentation available to prove that John of Cambridge was actually an older son of the Mayflower Stephen Hopkins.
