Janice Harrington Burns, 68, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay on Nov. 29, 2008. She was born on Feb. 24, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of the late Earl and Gladys (Hasbrooke) Harrington. Janice received her BA Degree from Beloit College and MA from UW Stevens Point. She was a member and served as Vice President of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Jan taught elementary school for thirty-three years, twenty-five of which she spent as a Special Education teacher for the Stevens Point Area Public School District. As a teacher, Jan was greatly appreciated for her hard work, organization and patience. Jan was a loving and giving mother, sister, daughter, and friend to all who knew her. She had a special gift for making her grandchildren smile and laugh. Jan was also an artist in watercolor painting and has a piece in the collection of the WEA Trust. She enjoyed playing the piano and, in later years, caring for the many birds that visited her backyard. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Keith) Rathmell, Waukesha, and their two children, Owen and Chloe. She is also survived by her sister, Jean West, Pittsburgh, PA; two brothers, Tim (Suzanne) Harrington, Encinitas, CA, and Tom (Victoria) Harrington, Wauwatosa, WI; nieces, one grand niece; one grand nephew; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jean Burns; and her father´s second wife, Catherine Margaret Harrington. Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Charles Mize officiating.
