Fourth of six children of J. Dietrich and Sophia C. Brand Zahn, Dora was born in rural Limestone Township. She was a fine seamstress as well as a diligent homemaker. In her teens she had taught the local country school.

She married Fred August Roeder near Roberts on June 12, 190, with her sister, Rosa, as bridesmaid. She and Fred were parents of two sons, Harvey and R. Durward.

They purchased and farmed her father's land in Lyman Township and then purchased more land formerly belonging to her uncle, Jacob Zahn. They farmed in Ford County until retirement in 1949 when they moved to Paxton.

She had been raised in the German Evangelical church being a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical, located on the land donated by her parents. She was a member of Roberts Methodist church at her death.
