2nd Lieut Thad L. Rudolph

Served with Co. K 5th Texas Partisan Rangers CSA during the war of Southern Independence of 1861-65.
After the war he was appointed one of the Deputy Sheriff's of Collin Co. Texas. He was very popular with the locals and was known to be a fair man and was known to look the other way for small infractions of the local laws.

He was murdered on July 4th 1874 by being shot in the back of the head by a drunken ex-yankee soldier who took exception to Rudolph raising a forth of July toast to the late Confederacy and President Jeff Davis.

The Yankee was promply Lynched by the enraged crowd and his body was left hanging until the day after Rudolph's funeral.
It was buried in an unknown grave outside of town near a garbage pit. Rodolph was only 36 years old at the time of his death and was greatly missed by the local community.
The attached history & C-1870 Photo of Rudolph is courtesy of the local McKinney SCV.s Thank you boys.

Thad was a talented musician. With John P. Lillard, he furnished music for the ball held at the Cannon Hotel in McKinney on Aug. 14, 1868, in celebration of the nomination of Seymore and Blair as the candidates of the Democrats for President and Vice-president of the United States. In the Civil War he served as 3rd Lt. in Company K which was organized in McKinney in 1862.
