SERVICES HELD FOR WOMAN BORN HERE IN 1868
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the McCullough Funeral Home for Mrs. Mae Weaver Bruner, 87, who died last Wednesday morning at a hospital at Perry.
Mrs. Burner was born in Algona April 28, 1868, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Weaver, among Kossuth's earliest settlers. She was married in 1887 to Dwight L. Newton, who died four years later, leaving two small children, Deane and Lois.
Mrs. Bruner then returned to Algona to make her home with her parents till 1909, when she was married to Albert B. Bruner. They lived in Des Moines for 40 years, then moved to Perry to be with their daughter, Mrs. Walter Scott. Mr. Bruner died a few years ago.
She is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Scott, a grandson, four great-grandchildren, her brother, Mart P. Weaver, Algona, and two step-daughters. The son Deane is dead as are two brothers and a sister.
Pallbearers were Ray S. McWhorter, Clarence Reibhoff, Clifford Reibhoff, Howard Seely, Claude Seely, and Kenneth Seely.
Mrs. Bruner's parents came to Algona in 1856, two years after the first settlement was made by the Call brothers, and made their home here till their deaths.
