Scrappy, fearless, clever, resolved.....he ran a few circles around a few southern boys.

Atwood, Olivet A of Ithica, Wisconsin Corporal Co B 20th Inf. Captain by brevet from Dec 7, 1862: In recognition of distinguished gallantry and daring display by him on the following occasions:

At a taking of a rebel battery by the regiment at Prairie Oak Ark. Dec 7, 1862 where he captured two artillerymen.

In charging a rifle pit at Vicksburg, Miss. where he was the first man in the charge and alone took several prisoners before the detailed party came up.

At Morganzania, Lousiana he was taken prisoner and made his escape from a guard of six rebel soldiers and one Lieutenant, bringing to camp with him the arms of the Lieutenant.

At Spanish Fort opposite Mobile, Alabama where on the first night of the investment, the command being short of beef, he entered the rebel lines and drove "there from" to the Federal camp, 30 head of cattle.

Mr Atwoods personal history will be filled in with additional research and contributions to his story are always welcomed.
