Addison Wilson and his family came to Collin County from Tennessee in 1849 with a number of other settlers, comprising a caravan of fifteen wagons and carryalls. He settled in the Ash Grove community, six miles north of McKinney.

During the same year his son-in-law, Peter R. Wallace, built a log house and a board blacksmith shop on the southeast corner of the square in McKinney. Tom, B., Addison Jr and Gus hauled supplies and lumber from Jefferson, Pine Mills, and Houston to McKinney, using ox teams.
