In 1880, Peter was the enumerator for the US Census of Osage County. In 1884 he and his family moved to Maries County to a farm 3 miles northwest of Vienna. Six years later, Peter lost his wife Eva in 1886 at the young age of 37.
Soon thereafter, Peter met and married Ellen Hegarty in 1887 in Vienna MO. They lived a simple life in Maries County, having several children together: Peter Jr. (b 1888), Timothy Bernard (b 1890), Michael (b abt. 1891), George (b 1892), Ellen (b 1894), David (b 1896) and Johanna Margaret (b 1899).
In 1915 the large family resided in Vienna and were very successful farmers in Maries County. Peter was a trustee of the Visitation Parish for many years, and an officer of the Maries County Bank.
After the death of Ellen in 1927, Peter moved into the home of his son George Redel where he opened a shoe repair shop in his son's store. Legally blind, Peter worked as a shoe cobber until his last days. Regarding his blindness, his obituary declared "this affliction he bore with wonderful patience. Deceased was a very successful farmer and made many friends in this community."
Peter passed away from a heart attack at the age of 89 in his son's home. He was buried side-by-side with his wife Ellen in Visitation Cemetery. It was said that Peter was survived by 65 Grand children, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren at the time of his death.
