MILITARY RITES HELD FOR ORLAND SAILOR

Leland W. Stayner, 24, son of Mrs. Lissie Smith, of Orland, died Monday, April 17, at the U. S. Naval Hospital in Sand Diego, California, of injuries received when struck by a car as he was returning to the Naval Base at San Diego.

The body arrived at the Weicht Funeral Home on Saturday, and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Orland with the Rev. J. Morgan Reese, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating and burial was in the Jackson Prairie cemetery. Military funeral rites were in charge of members of the Orland Post of the American Legion, and a naval escort was sent from San Diego with the body.

Stayner had served in the Navy during World War II and had re-enlisted about a year ago.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Smith, his stepfather, Dewey Smith, two brothers and three sisters.
