Frank Columbus Baker, worked for a time as the official, Oregon State Printer. This made him responsible for on-time printing, publishing and distribution of the state's needs. At the same time his father, William W. Baker, was also serving in the Oregon State Legislature. The father, in his life time, had helped operate several state newspapers, including The Oregonian. For a time his son was the leader of the, Oregon Republican Party.

Both father and son were labeled, Early Oregonian, by act of the Oregon State Legislature.

At the end or their lives, they lived in Portland, and while the son, died on 02 January 1907. The father, in poor health, died one month later, on 06 February 1907. The blow of loosing this fine son, who had followed in his father's footsteps, must have hastened his father's death.
