Services for Marvin R. Horton, 64, of Nampa, who died Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Nampa hospital, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Nampa Eighth Ward LDS Church on Amity Road, Nampa.
Bishop Dale Law of the ward will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
Mr. Horton was born Sept. 23, 1922, at Greenville, Utah, to George Alfred and Vera Agnes Rollins Horton. He was reared and educated in Greenville and Milford. Utah. He then attended Utah State University in Logan, majoring in civil engineering.
After his schooling, he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He entered the U.S. Air Force Oct. 27, 1942, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant Jan. 27, 1946, and returned to Utah and continued with the railroad.
He married Lorraine Davis Nov. 6, 1946, at the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple and they made their home in Milford.
While working for the railroad as a dispatcher, he also worked as a police officer and drove a mail truck.
In August 1970, they moved to Nampa, where they had since resided. While in Nampa, he traveled throughout the country for the railroad. He retired as a data field supervisor in April 1983.
He was a member of the Nampa 8th Ward LDS Church, where he was secretary to the high priesthood and membership clerk. He and his wife had just been assigned to work in the Boise Temple. He had also been elders quorum president, seventies group leader, Sunday school president and president of the young men in MIA. He was also a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers Club, had coached Little League Baseball and was a Boy Scout leader.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife of Nampa; two sons, John Carlyle Horton and his wife pam of St. George, Utah, and Paul Dee Horton of Nampa; four daughters, Debra Kaye Horton, Shelly Rae Titus, Alice Marie Horton and Ruth (Mrs. Danny) Harmon, all of Nampa; two brothers, George A Horton Jr. and William Richard Horton, both of Provo, Utah; a sister, Mrs. Rae Wright of Downey, Calif.; his stepmother, Mrs. Macel Horton of Beaver, Utah; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sons, Thomas Mitchell and David Henry.
Friends may call at the Nampa Alsip chapel today until 9 p.m. and Saturday at the Nampa 8th Ward from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. The family will greet friends at the chapel today from 7 to 9 p.m.
