Jerry M. Hess Jr.
Jerry M. Hess Jr., of Middleton, passed away Dec. 9, 2005, in Caldwell of natural causes. Although Jerry's death was unexpected, his family finds comfort knowing Jerry lives in the presence of his Savior whom he dearly loved.
Jerry was the first born son of loving and supportive parents, Jerry M. and JoAn E. Hess. He was born Dec. 22, 1953, in Caldwell. Jerry grew up in Nampa where he had many fond memories of his childhood. Time spent playing with cousins and visiting grandparents were among the many treasured recollections Jerry had.
Jerry attended schools in Nampa where he graduated from Nampa High School in 1972. He loved playing varsity basketball for Nampa High School. It was during this time that he developed a lifelong love for the game. This love resulted in many years playing church and city league ball. Jerry continued his education at NNU and Utah Tech.
Jerry felt blessed to have parents who taught him to love the gospel. He learned many valuable lessons from the example they set. He admired them and appreciated the many attributes he gained from them. Jerry had a special bond with both his parents.
Jerry met and married his partner of 26 years, Cheri Foote in 1979. Jerry and Cheri were sealed in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple. He has four children: Jerilynn, Tyler, Trevor and Trenton. Jerry and Cheri made their home in Middleton where Jerry served on the school board and was an integral part of the community. Jerry was always willing to donate his time and sponsor athletic events in the community.
Jerry worked for many years with his father at J.M. Hess Construction Co. He valued the skills and business ethic his father taught him. This prepared the way for Jerry to start his own company, Conco Construction in March of 1986.
Jerry had many passions in his life. He loved fishing, racquetball and an occasional round of golf. Jerry was an avid bass fisherman. He built his own pond and kept it well stocked with trophy bass that recognized him and would literally follow him around the pond, rising to the surface as he fed them. Jerry loved his chow dogs, motorcycles, barbecuing, basketball and a good fire in the fireplace. Jerry's greatest passion was his family. He worked hard to see them have a good life. He loved extended family outings, vacations and watching his children play sports. Most recently, he loved being a grandpa, again.
Jerry was a warm, caring man who never met a stranger and was easy to talk to. Jerry's family will miss his witty sense of humor, his silly jokes, his one-liners and the creative nicknames we all know and love. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Gospel and was a self taught scriptorian. He shared the Gospel with many others throughout his life. He was an active missionary for the church on a daily basis.
Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Orvilla Hess, and George and Mary Duncan; his father and mother-in-law, Richard and Janie Foote, and a cousin, Bruce Cook.
He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Cheri Hess of Middleton; his daughter and son-in-law, Jerilynn and Brett Keisel of Marsing, his son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Kimber Hess of Nampa, his son, Trevor Hess of Boise, and son Trenton Hess who is currently serving a mission in Curitiba, Brazil; his parents, Jerry M. and JoAn Hess of Nampa; and five siblings, Christy (Charles) Garner, Karen (Sheldon) Dillon, Kelly Hess, Layne (Sue) Hess and Mark (Sussi) Hess, all of Nampa; and his grandchildren, Shelby Keisel, Brady Bowers, Trey Keisel and Peyton Hess; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family; and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, in the LDS Chapel at 22500 S. Lansing Lane, east of Middleton. Services are under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, with Bishop Fred Betzold officiating. Friends may call on the family at a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd., Nampa, or at the church on Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
