WM R COLVIN DEAD
The Ex-Chief of Police Passed Away Last Midnight

Ex-Chief of Police Wm R Colvin died a few minutes before last midnight, at his home at 782 South Main Street.
The end was not unexpected, as Mr Colvin had been ill for months. His suffering during all that time was intense and even in his last moments he was not spared pain.
The deceased was born in Champaign County June 7, 1834 and came to this county when three years old, and was married to Miss Mary Daniels.
Four children; Harry, Harmon, Jerome, and Miss Frances (Fannie) blessed their union, they are all living.
Mr Colvin was elected town marshal in 1875 and served years. It can be truthfully said of his administration that he was one of the best officials the town has ever had.
After serving as marshal for a term of six years, he engaged with the grocery business with his son Harmon Colvin. After two years of business he retired and bought a farm in Perry township, where he resided for a couple of years, then returning to Lima and built the residence he occupied until his death.
During Mayor McComb's term of office, Mr Colvin served as Chief of Police and retired soon after Mayor Longworth's election, on account of old age.
He had been ill from complications of many diseases for many months and had been very low on several occasions, but rallied each time. His strength had become so wasted that he could no longer stand the onslaughts on his constitution, and he was finally forced to yield to the inevitable.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon. The hour has not yet been decided on.
