Called By Death Full Of Years ;

Capt. M. O. Roberts, Confederate Veteran and Old Resident, Passes Away .

Capt M. O. Roberts, an aged citizen of Paris and Lamar County, died at 11:45 O'Clock Wednesday morning at his home on South Twenty-fifth street.
He had been in feeble health for a long time and was confined to bed the last few weeks. He was born in North Carolina and was in the 88th year.In his early life
he moved from his native State to Missouri, where he was living at the outbreak of the Civil War . He enlisted in the Cofederate Army and served gallantry with the Rank of Captain. In 1866 the year after the close of the war, he moved from Missouri, to
Texas and located in Lamar County. He was engaged in farming south of Paris near Biardstown. Ten or twelve years ago he sold his farm and moved to the city, where he spent the remainder of his life. Capt. Roberts, was married twice, his first wife having been Miss Mary Poteet.
( Daughter of Thomas R. H. and Susan Gibbons Poteet). She died about twenty years ago, and a few years later he went back to Missouri and married a lady who was a widow , whom he knew in North Carolina when she was a girl. She died a few years ago. There were no children to him
by either marriage, but he reared a foster daughter. Mrs. W.G. Freese. The nearest relative who survives him is a niece, Mrs. Fannie Gould , a daughter of his brother,
who was living with her daughter in Dallas.She came here about a year ago to look after him and was staying with him when he died.

The funeral service will be held at 9:00 O'clock this morning at his late residence and will be coducted by Rev. P.L.Young and Rev. Lee Garrett, after which the remains will be taken to Antioch Cemetery near Biardstown for burial by the side of his first wife Mrs. Mary Poteet Roberts,
where Mary's other family and parents are buried.
