Mrs. Laverne Williams, 85, of West Frankfort, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in Marion Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Harper Williams.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1913, in Hamilton County to the late Denny and Reca (Holiday) Carney.

Mrs. Williams retired from the Holiday Inn in Marion.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Bernadean and Robert Ragan of West Frankfort, and Bernice and Haddon Davenport of Carterville; a sister, Freda Mae McFarland of Galatia; three grandchildren, Lori and husband, Les Palmer of of Carterville, Melinda and husband, Shawn Barnes of Maryland Heights, Mo., and Dana and husband, Kyle Herrin of Carterville; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Claude Carney and Earl Curtis Carney, and a dear friend, Ernest R. James.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery near Galatia.

Memorials may be made to the Lebanon Cemetery and left at the funeral home.
