Born c.1760, James Williams fought for American independence during the Revolutionary War, serving as a youth in his teens and early 20's. He died in the autumn of 1825 at the age of 65, having lived to see both the triumph of the cause he fought for, and the young United States defeat Great Britain a second time in the War of 1812.
His name appears on the D.A.R. Monument in the churchyard of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange, NJ, which honors Revolutionary War veterans interred there. Dedicated in 1931, this memorial consists of a bronze plaque affixed to a boulder.
