Our subject's marriage occurred November 7, 1865, to Miss Mary J. Schoonover, a native of Liberty Township, this county, and daughter of James and Susanna Schoonover. They have had six children - Cora B., Lenora D., Desse M., Lura E., Nathan J., and William A.
In 1870, Mr. Reed went to Iroquois County, Illinois, remaining there until 1877, when he returned to this county. In 1880, he removed to West Lebanon.
In August 1862, he enlisted in Company F, Seventy-second Indiana Volunteers, and was in battle at Chickamauga, Atlanta compaign, Selma, and all engagements in which his regiment participated, except one. He was honorably discharged July 5, 1865.
Mr. Reed is a Republican, and a member of G.A.R. In 1880, he received 257 votes in county convention for Recorder. He was elected Marshal of West Lebanon, May 7, 1883. Mr. Reed is an enterprising and creditable citizen." - Counties of Warren, Benton, Jasper and Newton, Indiana, 1883, page 174
