"The first Amherst man to die [in WWI] was Percy Davis, enlisted soldier in the regular army, who died of pneumonia at the age of nineteen, in San Antonio, Texas, February 20, 1917. He was buried in Meadowview cemetery with military honors." [Amherst in the World Wars, published by the Town of Amherst (Milford, NH: The Cabinet Press, 1947), no page numbers.]

From Percy's official Texas Death Certificate, he died on 3/21/1917 from pleurisy and pneumonia He was stationed at Camp Wilson in Texas and taken to San Antonio for treatment.
