Arletta Martha Hanson, 88, Rt.2, Chanute, Kansas, died Monday, March 7, 1994 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

She was born Dec. 29, 1905, in rural Chanute, Kansas, the daughter of Daniel E., Sr. and Laura (Hodgden) Bower.

After graduating from Chanute High School in 1924, she earned her teaching certificate from Pittsburg State Teachers College and taught in rural schools until 1934. She also had a Lifetime Kansas Teaching Certificate.

She married Glenn E. Hanson April 15, 1934 in rural Chanute, Kansas. He preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1992.

She was an active member of the Colfax Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for 31 years, and had been Vacation Bible School Superintendent, Adult Study Group Teacher, and past President and White Cross Chairperson of Colfax A.B.W. She was also active in the Neosho County Extension program and charter member of the Victory Extension Homemakers Unit and a member for over 50 years. She was active in the local Chanute Art Gallery activities, and was very good at working in oils and pastels.

Survivors include a son, Delmar G. Hanson, Sharpes, FL; a daughter, Lyla L. Ross, Glastonbury, CT; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ellen) Knock, of Chanute, KS, and Mrs. Leroy (Nellie) Brower, of Moran, KS; three brothers, Emmett Bower and W. Fred Bower, both of Chanute, KS, and Hugh Bower of Gresham, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Daniel E. Bower, Jr; and by an infant sister, Golda May Bower.

Funeral will be Thursday, March 10, 1994 at Johnson Mortuary with the Rev. Kenneth Piatt officiating. Burial will be in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
