FREDERICK SCHWALBE

DIED – At his home in the town of Eaton, Manitowoc county, on Monday night Oct. 28, Frederick Schwalbe, aged 60 years, 1 months and 15 days.

The deceased was born in Germany Sept. 8, 1845. He came to America with his parents who located in the town of Eaton. Mr. Schwalbe was a prominent man in his community and for a number of years represented his town on the county board. He took an active part in politics and was nominated by his party at one time for state senator. Some six years ago, he received an appointment to a government position in the pension department at Washington and served about four years.

During his residence in Washington, he was taken ill and was obliged to return home. His illness terminated in dropsy which caused his death. He was a man whom those who knew him liked and respected. Genial and companionable, he made friends everywhere.

He leaves a widow, one son and four daughters to mourn his death, also two brothers and two sisters. The funeral took place Thursday at one o'clock.

Schwalbe, Frederick Wilhelm (Sept. 8, 1845-Oct. 23, 1905 –husband of Emilie Zutz –after Emilie died on July 14, 1880, Frederick re-married to the widow Emilie nee Hedrick Freund [married 1881] –son of Frederick Schwalbe and Elisa Heinchen –born in Germany –[Frederick and his first wife Emilie Zutz had a son named Frederick C. Schwalbe who was born on Feb. 6, 1875 –he was a member of Company H of the Second Regiment of the Wisconsin Volunteers in the Spanish American War –he died on July 27, 1898 of typhoid fever in Georgia –buried at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Rockland] –on Nov. 20, 1871 purchased the 80 acres of the W1/2 of the NW1/4 of Section 9 and the 40 acres of NE1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 8, Town of Eaton from his parents and created a farmstead at 3933 Hickory Hills Road in Section 9 –on Nov. 24, 1890 purchased the 110 acre Timothy Noonan farm centered in the SE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 9 and added this to his farm centered at 3933 Hickory Hills Road –on Oct. 10, 1903 purchase the 30 acre Oscar Rickaby farm at 3630 Collins Road in Section 4, Town of Eaton –soon after this purchase, Frederick died on Oct. 28, 1905 –for the brief period of Sept. 7 to Nov. 7, 1898 owned the 40 acres of the SE1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 9, Town of Eaton –after Frederick’s death in 1905, ownership of his farm was transferred to his son August Schwalbe –died from “fatty metamorphism associated with myocarditis dropsy”) –buried at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Rockland [death record Manitowoc 7-383]
