Paul Sumner Bean and his twin Edward were born June 5 1922 in Cotati California to Paul Sumner Bean Sr and Edna Helen Simmons. Edward, Paul's twin did not survive long after birth. Paul received the nickname Kick as child from his father and he was known as Kick by all of his siblings even unto his death.
As a result of the Great Depression Paul's father lost his ranch and Paul was forced to work and live on his own by age 12. He supported himself by washing dishes for tips and room and board at the Green Mill Inn in Petaluma. At the time the Inn was a speak easy. By 16 Paul was picked up in a raid and forced by judge into the military. By 21 Paul was serving overseas in World War II.
Paul returned to the United States in 1945 and followed his father to his new ranch in Oregon. He met and married Winnie B Thorp in August 1945. In September of 1945 the family suffered the loss of Paul's youngest brother in a hunting accident on the family ranch. The death was a devastating blow for the world war veteran.
Paul and Winnie remained married for 65 year until his death from a heart attack.
Paul was an avid oil painter, gardener and outdoorsman. He especially fond of growing rare roses and fruit trees.
