Benno H. Abel, 88, Lake Mills, died on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Fort Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 28, 1925 in Watertown, the son of the late Reinhardt and Sidonia (Pitzner) Abel.

Ben married Vanita Will of Waterloo on February 1, 1982 in Jefferson.

He was a graduate of the Waterloo High School. The family moved to Lake Mills from Waterloo. Ben had been employed at Oscar Mayer in Madison for 30 years, retiring in 1982.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Waterloo American Legion Post #233. Ben enjoyed bowling and was on the Thursday night men's league in Lake Mills for many years.

Survivors include his wife Vanita; step-children, Brian Herman of Sun Prairie and Yvonne (Lawrence) Herold of Lake Mills; grandchildren, Ty Herold of Cambridge and Ja (Geoff) Marcs of Lake Mills; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Joshua, and Carcin Woodland; sister-in-law, Marian Abel of White Bear Lake, MN; other relatives and friends.

Also preceding in death were three brothers, Harland "Felix", Ervin, and Alvin.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Washington Cemetery in the Town of Portland with Military graveside rites.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society.
