Esther W. Keyser was the youngest of fourteen children born to Andrew Keyser, Sr. (1758-1838) and his wife Sarah Margaret Rinehart (1770-1820) of Page Co., VA. She married Isaac Columbus Dovel (1811-1879) on Sept. 6, 1832. The couple lived in Greenup Co., KY before moving Ironton, OH, where Isaac began a long and respectable career as cashier at the Exchange Bank. The couple had eleven children: Sarah Margaret (b. 1833), George Washington (b. 1835), James Shelton (b. 1837), Mary Catherine Elizabeth (b. 1839), Lydia Jane (b. 1841), Isaac Richard (b. 1844), unnamed infant (b. & d. 1847), Charles Filmore (b. 1848), Florence Page (b. 1852), Josephine Amanda (b. 1854), and Kittie W. (b. 1859).
