Barbara Sawyer (Wood) Torrence of Plymouth died Feb. 23. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald L. Torrence. Born in Plymouth, Sept. 21, 1923, a daughter of the late Everett B. Wood, Past Fire Chief Town of Plymouth and Gertrude Sawyer Wood. Educated in the Plymouth Schools and a graduate of Plymouth High School Class of 1941. She had worked as a Comptroller for Standish Chevrolet and Colonial Car Lease Co. in Plymouth. Barbara was an avid gardener and chef, she also loved doing stain glass works. She is survived by her two sons, Robert B. Torrance and his wife Elizabeth of Plymouth and Douglas G. Torrance and his wife Jane of Plymouth. Sister of Jane E. Shaw and her husband Arthur Shaw Jr. of Middleboro, Peggy Ann Randall and her husband Lewis B. of Nokomis, Florida. Aunt of Dr. Arthur Shaw III of St. Petersburg, FL. and Ronald E. Shaw of Plymouth. Great-aunt of Adam Shaw of San Diego, CA. Also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. Burial in the Chiltonville Cemetery.
