Paul C. Joseph Sr., whose "Hello Cuz" greeted thousands of diners at his El Patio Restaurant, passed to his eternal reward Tuesday morning. He was 73 years young.

Paul was born February 1, 1922, in Austin, the son of Lebanese immigrants. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he returned to the city and worked at a restaurant called "Schoonerville". From those humble beginnings rose El Patio Restaurant which became an institution to Austin families and university students, who returned for years after graduation with their college- bound children.

Along the way, he and his wife, Mary Ann, raised six children. The family was active at St. Austin's Catholic Church.

When he wasn't working or spending time with his nine grandchildren, Paul enjoyed fishing off the piers in Corpus Christi and visiting the Sands and dessert winds of Neveda.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and brother-in-law, and will be missed by his many relatives and friends.

Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Joseph; daughter, Michelle Joseph; son, Paul Joseph Jr., son, Michael Joseph and wife, Myriam Joseph; daughter, Roseann Joseph Ciani and husband, Dennis Ciani; daughter, Renee Joseph Downer and husband, Mark Downer; son, David Joseph and wife, Kim Joseph, and Richard Fogaley; his grandchildren, Kristyn Ciani, Jennifer Joseph, Juliana Joseph, Christopher Ciani, Jaclyn Joseph, Ryan Downer, David Joseph Jr., Grant Joseph, and Brandon Downer; brothers and sisters, Mary Shia, Jimmy Joseph, Helen Naufel, Howard Joseph, Harold Joseph, Raymond Joseph, Robert Joseph, Charlie Joseph and Genevieve Kouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Shikrey and Jenny Joseph; brothers and sisters, Martha Attal, Mitchel Joseph, Albert Joseph, and Rose Tannous.

The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cook- Walden Funeral Home, Lamar location. Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Colonial Chapel at Cook- Walden Funeral Home, Lamar location. Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Louis Catholic Church with Reverend Larry Covington officiating. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Fred Russell, Basil Attal, Sammie Tannous, Jimmy Joseph Jr., Michael Kouri, Howard Joseph Jr., Mike Manos, and George Shia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Hospital, The Paul Joseph Fund, 601 E. 15th Street, Austin, Texas 78701.
