Roy Lee Conway, Sr., age 89, of Ogallala, NE, passed away on April 29, 2010, in Golden Our's Convalescent Home in Grant, NE. Roy was born on April 3, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, MO, the son of Ancel and Stella Myrtle (Mills) Conway.

He received his education and grew up in Verona and Pierce City, MO. On July 19, 1942, he married Ludella Otillia Fritz in Freistatt, MO. He entered the armed services in July of 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, MO. He was stationed at Camp Phillips, KS, Cheyenne, WY, and Seattle, WA, prior to going to the South Pacific for 11 months. He was honorably discharged in October of 1945 at Fort Leavenworth, KS. After his service, he farmed in Pierce City until 1956 when the family moved to Denver, CO. He worked as a Carpenter for several contractors. In 1973, the family moved to Ogallala, NE. He continued in the carpentry trade until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Ogallala, NE, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veteran's and the American Legion. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and wood-working.

Roy is survived by his children, Roy Conway, Jr. and his wife Janet, Virginia and her husband Ronald Yeager, and Diana Alcorn, all of Ogallala, NE, Karolyn and her husband Lowell Moran, of Walden, CO, and Lou Ella and her husband Duane Armstrong, of Loveland, CO; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sister-in-laws Melba Fleming and Nelda Fritz of Monett; one brother-in-law Oren Fritz and his wife Carolyn of Monett; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ludella, in 1997; a daughter, Mary Ann Conway; five brothers, William, Joseph, Elmer, Fred and Albert; and two sisters, Carrie Knight and Mary Johnston.

A memorial service was held on May 3, 2010 in Draucker Funeral Home in Ogallala with Reverend Wayne Pick of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Committal of Ashes will be held on Monday, August 23, 2010 in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Freistatt with Pastor Ryan Buchmueller officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #91. Memorial contributions have been requested to the American Legion Post 419 of Freistatt.
