A retired captain with the Baton Rouge Fire Department with 30 years of service, Bill died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 87, a native of Copiah County, Miss., and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European and Pacific theaters. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday from 8:30 a.m. until religious service in the chapel at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Douglas Pruitt. Graveside service at 3 p.m. Friday at Pine Bluff Community Cemetery, Dentville, Miss. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna May Hine Barker; daughters, Barbara Housewright and husband Dell, Donna Stephens and husband Errick, Beverly Arceneaux and husband Keith, and Pamela Sheets and husband Ron; sisters, Earline Welch and Bettie Carolyn Culpepper; identical twin brother, LV Barker and wife Dorothy; nine grandchildren, Jessica Thompson, Anne Thompson, Samuel Thompson, Laura Stephens, Diana Stephens, Sara Arceneaux, Brian Arceneaux, Keith Boggs, and Kristen Velinsky and husband Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Amber Moran, Tabitha Velinsky, Hailey Velinsky. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton E. and Lillie Marie Miller Barker; five brothers, Riley, Carl Elton, Thomas, Charles and Thelbert "Ted"; five sisters, Louise Barker, Yvonne LeBeouf, Eula Lee Strong, Mattie Zell Drummond and Hazel Goza; two grandchildren, Erin Stephens and Amanda Stephens. He was a member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church and Fairfields Lodge, F&AM. He loved his family and he loved life. Memorial donations may be made to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Monroe.
